Threads precisely made
From M2 to M48 we produce internal and external threads to all common standards. Metric, imperial, trapezoidal or special profiles, to the highest accuracy on modern CNC machines.
CNC thread machining: internal and external threads from M2 to M48, cut, formed or milled. Thread inspection with go/no-go gauges to ISO 965. Special and trapezoidal threads on request.
What is thread machining?
Thread machining covers every cutting process used to produce internal and external threads. Whether metric ISO, imperial, trapezoidal or a special profile, the choice of process depends on material, thread size and the tolerances required.
At Strobel Industry we rely on CNC controlled processes such as thread turning, tapping with a synchronised spindle and gun drilling for deep hole threads. Our DMG MORI NLX 2000 with driven tools allows complete machining of turned parts including threads in a single setup.
Our thread processes
We use whichever process fits the requirement best, for maximum efficiency and precision.
Thread turning
Single or multiple pass on the CNC lathe. Ideal for external threads and large diameters. The best surface quality.
Tapping
Synchronised tapping for internal threads. High process reliability in both blind and through holes.
Thread milling
Helical interpolation with a thread mill for large or unusual threads. Flexible profile design, left hand threads included.
Thread forming
Chipless thread production by cold forming. Higher strength through grain flow. Ideal for aluminium and copper alloys.
Thread cutting
Classic die or insert for external threads. Economical for standard threads at medium quantities.
Special threads
Trapezoidal, round, buttress or customer specific profiles. CAM programmed for the highest accuracy.
Why Strobel for threads?
Complete machining
Turning, drilling, threading and milling in one setup. No re-clamping errors, the highest concentricity.
Every thread type
Metric ISO, UNC, UNF, BSP, trapezoidal, round and special profiles, all from one source.
100% thread inspection
Every thread is checked with gauge rings and plugs. Inspection report on request.
Short lead times
Express production possible on request. Lead time depends on the part and current capacity.
All materials
Steel, stainless, aluminium, titanium, brass, copper and plastics. We know the right cutting data for each.
From 50 pieces
Prototypes, small and large series. Economical production through optimised processes.
Threads in every material
Steel & stainless
Free cutting steel, tempered steel, V2A/V4A. Thread turning and tapping with adapted cutting data for reliable results.
Aluminium
EN AW-6082, 7075 and other alloys. Thread forming or cutting with high surface quality and minimal burr formation.
Copper alloys
Brass, bronze and copper. Ideal materials for thread forming, with higher strength through cold working.
Titanium & special materials
Titanium grade 2/5, Inconel, Hastelloy. Dedicated cutting materials and an adapted coolant strategy for reliable thread quality.
Frequently asked questions
Q1Which thread types can you produce?
We produce all common thread types: metric ISO (M2 to M48), UNC/UNF, BSP/BSPT, trapezoidal (Tr), round (Rd) and customer specific special profiles.
Q2What tolerances do you achieve on threads?
Standard is 6H for internal threads and 6g for external threads to ISO 965. Tighter tolerances such as 4H/4h are possible on request.
Q3Can threads be produced in one setup with the turned part?
Yes. Our CNC lathes with driven tools and a C axis allow complete machining including threads in a single setup.
Q4How are the threads inspected?
Every thread is checked with calibrated thread gauge rings (go/no-go) or thread plug gauges. We produce an inspection report where needed.
Q5Which surface finishes do you reach on the thread?
Thread turning reaches Ra 0.8 to 1.6 µm. Rolled or formed threads can achieve Ra 0.4 µm and better.
Q6Is express production possible for threaded parts?
Yes, express production is possible on request. The fastest route: send the drawing by email to info@strobel-industry.de.
