Chuck turned parts
Chuck turned parts such as flanges, bushings and gears to your drawing: we place them with vetted partner shops.
Chuck turned parts are compact turned parts that are clamped in a chuck and machined from both sides, such as flanges, bushings, covers and gear blanks. Strobel Industry places chuck turned parts made to drawing with vetted partner shops, from one-off parts to large series. Specialists from our team review the drawing and get back to you within 24 hours with the right shop.
Turning centres
Our partner shops turn chuck parts on CNC lathes and turn-mill centres in classic chuck clamping. The workpiece sits in a 3-jaw chuck and can be machined from both sides, ideal for larger diameters and compact geometries.
Unlike sliding-head turning, there is no guide bushing. Larger diameters are possible on request, from one-off parts to series. Partner shops with a bar feeder also run series unmanned.
Chuck vs. sliding-head turning
Which process suits your part? The difference lies in how the workpiece is guided and in the achievable dimensions.
Typical chuck turned parts
Flanges
Connection flanges, weld-neck flanges and blind flanges with bolt patterns and fits.
Ø50 mm and largerBushings & bearings
Plain bearing bushings, spacer bushings and guide bushings with tight tolerances and fine surface finishes.
Ø20 to 150 mmGears
Spur gears, bevel gears and worm gears, as pre-turned blanks or complete with gear teeth.
Module 1 to 6Housings & covers
Round housing parts, end covers and bearing housings, internal and external machining in one setup.
to drawingShafts & axles
Short shafts and axles with shoulders, grooves, threads and keyways.
Ø15 to 100 mmAdapters & special parts
Thread adapters, transition pieces and clamping sleeves, also in special materials such as 316 stainless or titanium.
to drawingMaterial range
Our partner shops turn all common metals and engineering plastics. Special materials on request.
Structural steel
Universal material, weldable, economical. Standard for flanges, bushings and machine components.
Quenched and tempered steel
High strength, hardenable, wear-resistant. For loaded shafts, axles and gearbox components.
Free-cutting steel
Very good machinability, short cycle times. Ideal for high volumes and economical series.
Stainless steel
Corrosion-resistant, food-safe, acid-resistant. For medical, food and chemical engineering.
Aluminium
Lightweight, corrosion-resistant, excellent machinability. For lightweight parts, housings and covers.
Brass & copper
Excellent conductivity, good machinability. For electrical engineering, fittings and contacts.
Plastics
Lightweight, wear-resistant, chemically resistant. Dry machining without coolant possible.
Tolerances & surfaces
Good chuck turning shops achieve these values in series production, for ready-to-install parts without rework.
Fits such as H7/g6, reproducible across the whole series.
High concentricity through complete machining in one setup or with a sub-spindle.
Fine turning and grinding for sealing or sliding surfaces.
Metric, fine, Whitworth, UNC/UNF, trapezoidal and special threads.
Surface treatment such as anodising, zinc plating, nickel plating, hardening, powder coating or passivation: state the treatment you need in your enquiry and we place the order with partner shops that provide it.
From single part to large series
Whether one piece or a large series: we place the order with the shop that is set up for your batch size.
Single part & prototype
Functional samples, spare parts and first articles. No tooling costs, only programming and setup.
Small series
First series after approval and recurring small requirements. We place them with shops set up for small batches.
Series
A good balance of setup time and unit cost, ideal for recurring demand.
Large series
Partner shops with a bar feeder also run large batches unmanned. Framework agreements are made directly with the partner shop.
Quality assurance
We only place orders with partner shops we have vetted. State the documents you need in your enquiry.
Vetted partner shops
We only pass your enquiry on to shops we have vetted beforehand.
Inspection report
If you need an inspection report, state it in your enquiry. We place the order with partner shops that have suitable metrology.
Material certificates 3.1
If you need an inspection certificate 3.1 to EN 10204, state it in your enquiry. We place the order with partner shops that provide it.
FAI / PPAP
If you need a first article inspection report to VDA or PPAP to AIAG, state it in your enquiry. We place the order with partner shops that provide it.

Frequently asked questions
Q1What are chuck turned parts?
Chuck turned parts are turned parts machined on CNC lathes with chuck clamping. The workpiece sits in a 3-jaw chuck and there is no guide bushing as in sliding-head turning. This allows much larger diameters than on a sliding-head lathe.
Q2When chuck turning, when sliding-head turning?
Chuck turning suits larger diameters (from about Ø 30 mm) and compact geometries such as flanges, bushings and gears. Sliding-head turning is ideal for small, slender parts in high quantities. We check which process fits on the basis of your drawing.
Q3Which materials are possible?
Our partner shops turn all machinable metals: structural steel, quenched and tempered steel, free-cutting steel, stainless steel (304, 316), aluminium, brass, copper and titanium. Plus engineering plastics such as POM, PEEK, PA6 and PTFE.
Q4Which tolerances are achievable?
Good chuck turning shops achieve dimensional tolerances from IT6, runout ≤ 0.01 mm and surfaces down to Ra 0.4 µm. For tighter requirements we place the order with a partner shop that finishes by grinding.
Q5Which quantities are possible?
From 1 piece to large series. We place the order with the partner shop that is set up for your batch size. For large batches there are partners with bar feeders that also run unmanned.
Q6How long is the lead time?
The partner shop states the lead time in its quote. It depends on complexity, quantity, material and capacity. If it is urgent, put your target date in the enquiry. We will then look specifically for a shop that can meet it.
Q7Is surface treatment possible?
Yes. Anodising, zinc plating, nickel plating, hardening, powder coating or passivation: state the treatment you need in your enquiry. We place the order with partner shops that provide it.
Q8What does a chuck turned part cost?
The unit price depends on material, complexity, tolerances and quantity. The partner shop states the price in its quote.
