POM (Polyoxymethylene)
The standard for plastic turned parts: Dimensionally stable, low moisture absorption, excellent sliding properties. For gears, bushings, rollers.
PA 6 / PA 66 (Polyamide)
Tough, wear-resistant and good dampening. For bearing bushings, guide rollers, spacers. Watch moisture absorption.
PEEK (Polyetheretherketone)
High-temperature plastic up to 250°C. For seals, bearing seats and valve parts in medical, aerospace and chemical industries.
PE-UHMW
Self-lubricating, wear-resistant and food-safe. For guide rollers, chain guides and transport rollers.
PTFE (Teflon)
Lowest friction coefficient, chemically inert. For seals, bearings and valve seats in chemical applications.
PVC / PVDF
Chemically resistant, cost-effective. PVDF for aggressive media. For pipe flanges, fittings and valve housings.

Dimensional Tolerances from IT7
On the NLX 2000 we achieve IT7 tolerances with plastics. Tighter values require measurement cycles with temperature compensation.
Surfaces to Ra 0.8
Plastics deliver good surfaces directly from the lathe. Polishing or high-gloss turning for Ra < 0.4 µm possible.
Runout ≤ 0.02 mm
Despite the elasticity of plastics, we achieve runout values below 0.02 mm through adapted clamping pressures.
Threads in Plastic
Metric threads in POM and PA are standard. For PE and PTFE we recommend thread inserts.

Q1Which plastics can be CNC turned?
All machinable plastics as round bar or tube: POM, PA 6/66, PEEK, PE-UHMW, PTFE, PVC, PVDF, PC and PA compounds (e.g. glass-fiber reinforced). We procure the semi-finished products for you.
Q2What do plastic turned parts cost?
Plastic turned parts are cheaper than metal parts: Shorter cycle times, no coolant, less tool wear. Simple POM bushings from approx. €8, 25/piece (single part), in series from approx. competitive prices.
Q3Can plastic turned parts be manufactured on a bar feeder?
Yes, plastic round bars run smoothly in the bar feeder on both machines (NLX 2000 and Traub TNL 32). Lights-out series production is even easier with plastics, as no coolant is needed.
Q4Are POM turned parts suitable as plain bearings?
Yes, POM has a friction coefficient of approx. µ = 0.15 against steel and is self-lubricating. POM bushings and sleeves run without grease or oil and are maintenance-free.
Q5Can PEEK turned parts be manufactured?
Yes, PEEK round bars up to Ø 100 mm are available and excellently turnable. We manufacture PEEK turned parts for medical (implants, instruments), aerospace and high-temperature applications.
Q6What tolerances do plastic turned parts achieve?
Standard tolerances from IT7. With plastics, thermal expansion is higher than with metal, we account for this in calibration. For tight tolerances, we use measurement cycles.
Q7Is there a minimum order quantity?
No, from 1 piece. Prototypes, single parts and custom orders as well as series. For large series (1,000+), we check whether injection molding would be more economical.
Q8Can plastic turned parts be food-safe?
Yes, PE-UHMW and POM are FDA-compliant and food-safe (EU 10/2011) as standard. Since dry turned, there are no coolant residues on the parts.
