Why Aluminum for Turned Parts?
Aluminum is the ideal material for CNC turned parts: it machines excellently, has low weight (density approx. 2.7 g/cm³) and offers high strengths up to 500+ MPa depending on the alloy. Good thermal conductivity enables high cutting speeds and short cycle times.
We manufacture aluminum turned parts on our DMG MORI NLX 2000 (up to Ø300 mm) and Traub TNL 32 (up to Ø32 mm) — with live tooling for complete machining in a single setup.
Aluminum Alloys Overview
We process all common aluminum wrought alloys. The choice of alloy depends on mechanical requirements, corrosion resistance and surface treatment.
EN AW-6082-T6
The most widely used structural alloy. Good strength, good machinability, anodizable. Ideal for general mechanical engineering.
EN AW-7075-T6
High-strength aerospace alloy with strengths up to 540 MPa. For highly stressed components in aerospace and motorsport.
EN AW-5083
Seawater-resistant alloy with outstanding corrosion resistance. Ideal for shipbuilding and maritime applications.
EN AW-2024-T4
High-strength alloy with good fatigue resistance. For aerospace, not anodizable.
AlMg3 (5754)
Good corrosion resistance and weldability. For housings, covers and components with lower strength requirements.
AlMgSi1 (6082)
Universal standard alloy with good value. Heat-treatable, anodizable, good machinability.
Benefits of Aluminum Turned Parts
Low Weight
About one third the weight of steel — ideal for lightweight designs in aerospace, automotive and mechanical engineering.
Excellent Machinability
High cutting speeds (up to 3,000 m/min) enable short cycle times and cost-effective production even for small quantities.
Corrosion Resistant
Natural oxide layer provides corrosion protection. Anodizing can further enhance the protection.
Surface Versatility
Anodizing (natural/colored), hard anodizing, chromating, powder coating, glass bead blasting — diverse surface options.
Good Thermal Conductivity
Aluminum conducts heat excellently — ideal for heat sinks, heat exchangers and thermally stressed components.
Recyclable
Aluminum is 100% recyclable without quality loss. Sustainable material choice for environmentally conscious companies.

Precision for Aluminum Turned Parts
Dimensional Tolerances from IT6
Fits like h6, f7 and H7 are standard. For special requirements, we achieve IT5 through post-grinding.
Surfaces to Ra 0.4
Fine turning delivers surfaces to Ra 0.4 µm. Polishing or anodizing for even better surface quality.
Runout ≤ 0.01 mm
Tight runout and concentricity tolerances for mating fits and rotating components.
Thread Tolerances 6H/6g
Metric threads, fine threads and special threads to DIN standards. Pipe threads (G, NPT) also available.

Questions about Aluminum Turned Parts
Q1Which aluminum alloys do you process?
We process all common wrought alloys: EN AW-6082-T6, 7075-T6, 5083, 2024-T4, AlMg3 and AlMgSi1. Cast alloys on request. The choice of alloy depends on the mechanical requirements.
Q2What diameters can you turn?
From Ø3 mm to Ø300 mm. Small parts (Ø3–32 mm) are manufactured on the Traub TNL 32, larger diameters (up to Ø300 mm) on the DMG MORI NLX 2000.
Q3Can you anodize aluminum turned parts?
Yes — we coordinate anodizing (natural/colored), hard anodizing, chromating and other surface treatments through our partner network. Everything from one source.
Q4What is the minimum order quantity?
From 1 piece. Prototypes, small series (10–500 pcs), medium series (500–5,000 pcs) and large series (5,000+) — every quantity is individually calculated.
Q5What does an aluminum turned part cost?
The price depends on alloy, geometry, tolerances, surface and quantity. Simple aluminum turned parts in series start from approx. €2–5/piece; complex one-offs from €30–80. We calculate on a project-by-project basis.
Q6Is 7075-T6 harder to machine than 6082?
7075-T6 is harder (approx. 150 HB vs. 95 HB for 6082-T6) and requires adapted cutting data. We have extensive experience with both alloys and deliver identical quality.
Q7Can you do complete machining (turning + milling)?
Yes — our NLX 2000 has 12 live tools and Y-axis. Cross-holes, flats, wrench flats and threads are manufactured in a single setup.
Q8What are typical lead times?
Standard 10–15 working days from order confirmation. Express production from 5 working days possible. For series parts with framework agreements, shorter call-off times available.
