What are CNC Turned Parts?

CNC turned parts are precision-manufactured components produced on computer-controlled lathes (CNC = Computerized Numerical Control). In CNC turning, the workpiece rotates in the spindle while a stationary tool removes material — chip by chip, the desired geometry is created.

Unlike conventional turning, CNC control enables the highest precision and repeatability. Complex contours, threads, grooves and fits are manufactured in a single setup. Modern CNC lathes with driven tools and Y-axis can additionally perform milling, drilling and thread-cutting operations.

The result: rotationally symmetric precision parts such as shafts, bushings, bolts and adapters — in quantities from 1 to 100,000+ with consistent quality.

Highest Precision

Tolerances to ±0.005 mm and surface finishes to Ra 0.4 µm through CNC-controlled processes.

Repeatability

Every part identical — whether 1 piece or 100,000. The program guarantees consistent quality.

Efficiency

Automated manufacturing with bar feeder for 24/7 operation and fast throughput times.

Turning Methods

Short Turning vs. Long Turning

Depending on part geometry, we use the optimal turning method. Both methods are available in our machine park:

Surface Finishing

Surface finishes for your turned parts

In addition to machining, we offer numerous surface treatments through our partner network:

Anodising

Protective and decorative coating for aluminium. Hard or soft anodising, also coloured.

Zinc Plating

Cathodic corrosion protection for steel parts. Blue, yellow or black chromating.

Blackening

Thin iron oxide layer for decorative corrosion protection on steel parts.

Electroless Nickel

Uniform Ni-P coating even on complex geometries. High wear resistance.

Hardening

Case hardening, induction hardening or plasma nitriding — depending on material and requirements.

Grinding & Polishing

Finish machining for tightest tolerances and surface finishes down to Ra 0.1 µm.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about CNC Turned Parts

How much do CNC turned parts cost?

The unit price depends on material, complexity and batch size. We calculate individually and provide a binding quotation within 24 hours.

What tolerances are achievable with CNC turned parts?

Standard manufacturing is to ISO 2768-m. On request, tolerances down to ±0.005 mm and surface finishes down to Ra 0.4 µm are possible. For tight tolerances, we use grinding as a finishing operation.

How quickly can turned parts be manufactured?

We manufacture quickly and on schedule. Express manufacturing is available on request. For series orders, we agree individual delivery schedules with call-off options.

Can turned parts also include milling operations?

Yes — our CNC lathes feature driven tools and Y-axis. Cross-holes, flats, wrench flats and gears are manufactured in a single setup.

What is the minimum diameter you manufacture?

Our turning range extends from Ø 3 mm (long turned parts) to Ø 300 mm (short turned parts). For diameters below 3 mm, we are happy to discuss individual solutions.

What is the difference between long and short turning?

In long turning, the bar stock is fed through a guide bush — ideal for long, slender parts (Ø 3–32 mm). In short turning, the workpiece is held firmly in a chuck — ideal for compact parts with larger diameters (Ø 10–300 mm). We advise you on the optimal method for your part.

What surface treatments do you offer?

Through our partner network, we offer anodising, zinc plating, blackening, electroless nickel plating, hardening, grinding and polishing. We recommend the optimal surface treatment to match your material and application.

Can you also machine special alloys?

Yes — in addition to standard materials, we also machine special alloys such as Inconel, Hastelloy, Bronze, Monel and Tantalum. Contact us if you have special material requirements.

What is an automatic turned part?

Automatic turned parts are series parts manufactured fully automatically on CNC automatic lathes with bar feeder. Typical examples: screws, bolts, contacts and fasteners in quantities from 500.

Are material certificates and measurement reports included?

Yes — on request, we provide material certificates according to EN 10204 (2.1, 2.2, 3.1) and detailed measurement reports with calibrated instruments. First article inspection reports (FAIR) are prepared to customer specification.
